HUBER+SUHNER’s new SENCITY SPOT-M antenna is the latest addition to the company’s product portfolio and has been designed specifically for railway applications. It is a linear-polarized directional Yagi antenna built for trackside and in-tunnel installations for the fast growing communications-based train control (CBTC) sector.
CBTC systems are starting to find widespread use as a key factor in train safety and train network efficiency. Such control systems provide operators with continuously updated train performance data as well as precise train location and speed making it possible to safely increase the capacity of a given railway line by significantly reducing the time interval between trains.
The new antenna, designated 1324.17.0105, meets both the railway fire safety requirements of EN 45545-2 and the railway-specific environmental requirements of EN50125-3. It is designed support the 2.4 GHz WiFi band (IEEE 802.11 b/g) and features high gain figures up to 14dBi.
Designed to be pole, wall or ceiling mounted, the new SENCITY SPOT-M antenna is compact enough (80mm x 420mm x 80mm) for use in tunnels, where tight loading gauges can significantly restrict the available space and a special coating on the bracket and the choice of materials for the antenna components ensure a high level of corrosion resistance.
