Microsemi Corporation is making available an LCD display reference design for industrial and medical applications based on the company’s SmartFusion customisable system-on-chip (cSoC). The cSoC architecture allows product developers to support a wide variety of LCD panel configurability options, as well as the ability to change LCD driver functionality to support product upgrades on a cost-effective, remote basis. In addition, the new platform supports Open Graphic Library Safety Critical (OpenGL SC), an industry-standard for the development of safety-critical embedded display systems.

Further delays are affecting the distribution of the Raspberry Pi computer with distributors saying that they will only be willing to send out the gadgets once they have undergone electromagnetic testing. According to the Pi’s creators the device doesn’t need testing because it is a “development device” and the growing confusion over the issue follows a problem with the manufacture of the device earlier this year when it was found that the wrong parts had been put on the first batch of boards.
