STMicroelectronics has introduced a general-purpose voltage comparator that consumes one third the current for the same response time, compared with currently available devices such as the LMV331. The device addresses the demand for greater power efficiency and longer battery life in portable electronics applications. The ultra-low power device achieves a propagation delay of 200ns while consuming only 30µA of supply current, which is 66% lower than other solutions in the market.

Further delays are affecting the distribution of the Raspberry Pi computer with distributors saying that they will only be willing to send out the gadgets once they have undergone electromagnetic testing. According to the Pi’s creators the device doesn’t need testing because it is a “development device” and the growing confusion over the issue follows a problem with the manufacture of the device earlier this year when it was found that the wrong parts had been put on the first batch of boards.
