Freescale Semiconductor has initiated customer sampling for its QorIQ LS1 family of dual-core SoCs. An innovative family of pin-compatible communications processors these devices are the first available in the QorIQ LS series based on Layerscape architecture from Freescale. The ARM-based QorIQ LS1 family offers efficiency and security, together with the broadest array of high-speed interconnects and features offered in a sub-3W communications processor.
The LS1 family is intended for automation and control equipment, low-power networking products and next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) gateways. The family consists of three pin-compatible parts, all of which feature dual ARM Cortex-A7 cores, ECC protected L1 and L2 caches for high reliability, as well as secure boot and ARM TrustZone support. QorIQ LS1 processors also feature high-speed interfaces designed to deliver outstanding LAN and WAN networking performance.
Freescale is collaborating with Oracle and ARM to develop an IoT gateway platform built on a QorIQ LS1 processor and planned for availability in Q4 2014. The platform is based on a secure, standardized and open infrastructure for the delivery and management of IoT services.
QorIQ LS1 processors are now alpha sampling, and full volume production is scheduled for Q3 2014.
