New switching regulator goes wired

The new R-78W from RECOM is a wired version of the successful R-78 switching regulator family and is intended for use in applications which utilize few or no printed circuit boards. For example in LED lighting solutions, a constant voltage for a fan can be generated by connecting the switching regulator in parallel with the LED driver. In prototyping and in many areas of electrical engineering, wired regulators are extremely advantageous.

Standard output voltages of 5V, 9V, or 12V with an output current of up to 500mA are available. This module offers not only a wide input voltage range of 6.5V to 32V but is also short-circuit-protected (shut-down with automatic restart). It is safe to use in industry standard operating temperatures with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. And to further protect this regulator, a protection diode is integrated into the module in order to prevent damage from reverse currents when switching off.

Due to its compact design (17.5×11.5×8.5mm), the R-78W is also suitable for use in portable and battery-operated devices. Due to its high efficiency of up to 96%, no heat sink is required – saving valuable board space and lowering mounting costs.

RECOM products are always developed with the aim of maximum service life, and RECOM secures this goal during the development phase through intensive tests in its specially-equipped environmental laboratory. The R-78W switching regulator is certified in accordance with EN 60950-1 and is RoHS6/6 and REACH compliant. The warranty period is 3 years.
