1 44For applications that require high power density and high efficiency, RECOM’s latest RPM non-isolated DC/DC converters are the right power module for your application. Now available from Dengrove Electronic Components these DC-DC converter modules are compatible with the standard DOSA (Distributed-power Open Standards Alliance) footprint and operate at a very high efficiency of up to 99%, enabling operation without a heat-sink. The corresponding evaluation boards offer a shortcut to the otherwise long-winded testing and provide engineers with an effortless way to evaluate these DOSA modules.

The four new RPM modules are available in power ratings from 3.3W to 30W, just 3.75mm high, with a high power density resulting from a new controller IC and novel multi-layer PCB layout. The module’s surface-mount package is thermally optimized to draw heat away from the board: with no derating, it can supply more than 800W/in³ at a temperature of up to 90°C.

The RPM modules are rated for operation at full load over a wide temperature range of -40°C to 90°C and help designers to achieve compliance with system EMC regulations, as they feature a ground plane in the PCB and a metal housing which provides six-sided shielding. The modules include input and output capacitors, and require no additional components.

logo 12To help reduce time to design and test these power modules, RECOM has released a number of corresponding evaluation boards. The RPM‐1.0, RPM‐2.0, RPM‐3.0, and RPM‐6.0 buck regulator series generate a constant output voltage with an output current up to 6A from an external DC source. Hereby the multitude of functions offered by the RPM power modules such as trimming, sequencing, soft‐start, enable and sensing can be evaluated. More importantly, the behavior in overload or over temperature can be easily assessed early in the design phase.
