BlackBerry debuts surgical robotic arm powered by QNX SDP 8.0 at Embedded World 2024

At Embedded World 2024, BlackBerry will debut its new surgical robotic arm demonstration, powered by the QNX Software Development Platform (SDP) 8.0 and designed for precision and performance optimization in medical environments.

With functional safety front and centre, the robotic arm uses an haptic controller to illustrate the finely-tuned control, fail-safe and fault-tolerant architecture, and seamless feedback loop enabled by the latest QNX real-time operating system (RTOS). By equipping surgeons to perform procedures with confidence, precision movement and real-time feedback, robotics can minimize human error and improve patient safety. For patients, the benefits of surgical robotics extend beyond the operating room. Shorter hospitalization time, typically associated with robot-assisted procedures, and minimally invasive surgery often result in better long-term outcomes.

Other QNX embedded technology innovations at Embedded World will include the QNX OS and Hypervisor in the cloud. Serving industries including automotive, robotics, medical and industrial automation, the QNX virtual cockpit illustrates how developers can leverage “hardware in the cloud” to help streamline the development, testing, and integration of foundational software. Organizations can accelerate development cycles, reduce costs and speed time to market for mission-critical applications, while ensuring they are pre-certified to key safety standards.

“As modern industries migrate to a software-defined future, the choice of foundational technology becomes increasingly influential in an organization’s ability to innovate and compete,” said Jörg Zimmer, VP EMEA Sales at BlackBerry QNX. “Embedded World is the perfect place to show why QNX is already a trusted partner on that journey for many leaders in automotive, medical and industry. We are excited to demonstrate the newly launched QNX SDP 8.0, and our QNX portfolio, which is designed to enable developers to truly future-proof their products for many years to come.”

Visitors to Embedded World can see QNX technologies in action in Hall 4 at booth 544.
