BMR317: a next-generation IBC from Flex Power Modules designed for peak AI loads in an optimised footprint

Flex Power Modules has introduced the BMR317, a third-generation, compact 8:1 fixed ratio intermediate bus converter engineered for next-generation AI data centre and communication systems.

Built for space- and efficiency-constrained environments, the BMR317 is available in two variants delivering 800 W and 1000 W of continuous power, with peak capabilities of up to 2000 W and 2500 W, respectively. This is designed to support robust performance for the fast, dynamic load steps typical of modern AI compute and inference workloads.

The open-frame design and linear component landscape enable optimised cooling capability and high-power density above 397 W/cm3 (9.1 kW/in3) for the 800 W variant. A hybrid switching capacitor (HSC) topology helps to further maximize efficiency and reduce EMI, making the BMR317 ideal for tightly packed accelerator cards, servers, and xPU platforms.

With a 40-60 V input range and a 5-7.5 V output (8:1 fixed ratio), along with PMBus management and compatibility with the Flex Power Designer tool, the BMR317 integrates seamlessly into advanced power architectures and complements downstream voltage regulator modules. This creates an efficient and scalable two-stage conversion path for high-current AI and hyperscale workloads. Compatible VRM solutions include Flex Power Modules’ BMR510 and BMR511 series of integrated power stages and Renesas’ RRV2x830 “Power Tower” series.

The 800 W variant of the BMR317 is available now, with the 1 kW variant scheduled for release in the second half of 2026.
