ByteSnap Design unveils EN 18031-1 security compliance tool

New EN 18031-1 assessment bridges RED compliance and upcoming CRA deadlines

ByteSnap Design, an electronic product design and software consultancy, has unveiled an assessment tool to streamline compliance with EN 18031-1 under the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and support readiness for the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
While EN 18031-1 has been mandatory since August 2025, many manufacturers are only now encountering compliance challenges as new products approach EU market launch or conformity assessment.  In response, ByteSnap Design’s EN 18031-1 Network Protection and Cybersecurity Compliance Tool targets cybersecurity controls that frequently delay or complicate EN 18031-1 compliance, including authentication and access control, secure firmware update mechanisms, network threat protection, and secure key management practices.
The tool helps manufacturers identify compliance gaps early, reduce the risk of delays during conformity assessment, and understand when Notified Body involvement is required — particularly for higher-risk product categories such as childcare devices or financial equipment.
By mapping EN 18031-1 requirements to frameworks such as GlobalPlatform SESIP, the tool helps manufacturers avoid duplicate assessment effort when using pre-certified secure elements, reducing time to market while maintaining end-product compliance.
Dunstan Power, Director at ByteSnap Design, saidWhat we’re seeing in practice is that EN 18031-1 compliance issues are surfacing much earlier in product development than many manufacturers expected. This tool is designed around those real-world challenges as companies look ahead to the Cyber Resilience ActThere is a growing divide between manufacturers that incorporated security early and those now preparing products for launch, as EN 18031-1 enforcement influences procurement and supplier decisions.”
ByteSnap Design’s expertise in cybersecurity-by-design is aligned with standards including EN 18031, IEC 62443, ETSI EN 303 645, and the CRA, and draws from its proven track record across IoT, industrial, medical, and other sectors. As an NXP Approved Partner with deep knowledge of secure silicon and embedded systems, the company emphasises building security from the ground up rather than as an add-on, helping clients avoid common pitfalls like inadequate key management or insufficient penetration testing.
The EN 18031-1 Cybersecurity Requirements Assessment tool is available now and is intended for manufacturers preparing internet-connected radio products for EU market launch in 2026 and beyond, providing a 23-month head start on Cyber Resilience Act alignment.
