Power Integrations has unveiled a new reference design for a dimmable PAR38 spotlight, developed in collaboration with Cree. The new design, described in DER-350, uses Power Integrations" new LYT4317E, a member of the company"s LYTSwitch-4 family of single-stage drivers, along with Cree"s MT-G2 EasyWhite LEDs.

Marl International has upgraded its bulkhead light range, widely used as bright, low energy security lighting on construction and industrial sites, with new LED technology which gives a much wider spread of light. Marl has also increased the range of colours available.

Despite a major surplus in the light-emitting diode (LED) market, leading suppliers are increasing their capital spending and production because of government incentives and in order to cash in on an expected boom in the lighting business. Global shipments of metal organic chemical vapor-deposition (MOCVD) equipment, tools that are essential for LED manufacturing, are expected to rise by 17 percent in 2013, according to new research from IHS .This will be the first annual growth for the MOCVD market since 2011, and will represent a major turnaround from the 70 percent plunge of 2012.

Marl International has started a bilateral engineering partnership with the California-based LED lighting manufacturer Bivar Inc. under which the two companies will look to combine their design resources and share IP to develop and bring LED lighting and indicators to the market more quickly. The announcement marks a furtther stage in the strategic alliance between the two which was announced in January 2013.

iWatt Inc. has debuted its new 8-channel LED backlight driver designed to deliver better screen performance and lower cost in the next-generation of 2D and 3D LCD TVs. The iW7019 provides designers with a rich set of integrated features to improve both picture quality and render a more lifelike viewer experience.

Plessey has unveiled samples of a 350mW LED product (p/n PLB010350). These entry level lighting products are manufactured on Plessey’s 6-inch MAGICTM (Manufactured on GaN I/C) line at its Plymouth, England facility and are aimed at a variety of solid state lighting and entertainment-type lighting products including accent lighting, wall washing, wall grazing, strip-lighting and a variety of pulse lighting applications.

Ginsbury, the display specialist, is making available a family of LED backlight driver solutions from ERG (Endicott Research Group) the LCD power solutions provider. The new ERG Smart Force LED solutions are designed to provide high efficiency and cost effective control of LED backlight units used in LCD display panels.

Now available from specialist distributor Switchtec, Sirena’s TWS range of light towers has been expanded with the addition of three new modules to the stackable tower Automax range. The range provides visual and/or audible indication of the status of a wide variety of process machines, vehicles, lifts and other factory and industrial equipments. Automax is Sirena’s most complete range of modular and multifunctional stacklights purpose engineered for the automation industry.

Everlight Electronics is expanding its product range of low-power LEDs with a 0.2W top-view white LED featuring a lead frame technology with heat slug for good heat dissipation. The new 45-21S series is especially suitable for LED light tubes in general lighting and the series is an upgrade from standard 3020 packages. With efficient thermal dissipation, these compact (3.0x2.0x0.8mm LxWxH) white LEDs can be overdriven up to 30mA or 60mA while maintaining both high efficiency (115lm/W for the cool white and >104lm/W for the warm white versions), and cost effectiveness.

Mouser Electronics is now stocking the new XLamp MK-R LEDs from Cree. These LEDs are built on Cree"s SC³ TechnologyT platform and are capable of delivering up to 200 lumens-per-watt (at 1W, 25ºC) enabling lighting manufacturers to create the next generation of high-lumen indoor and outdoor LED lighting systems.
