International Rectifier has introduced a new family of automotive-qualified COOLiRFET MOSFETs delivering benchmark on-state resistance (Rds(on)) for heavy load applications including electric power steering (EPS), braking systems and other heavy loads on internal combustion engine (ICE) and micro hybrid vehicle platforms.

International Rectifier has announced that it has qualified and shipped product built on its revolutionary Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based power device technology platform for a home theater system manufactured by a leading consumer electronics company.

Energy Micro is now shipping its latest and what it claims is its most advanced microcontroller yet, the EFM32 Wonder Gecko, along with devices and development kits. The new MCU includes the ARM Cortex-M4 processor that provides a full DSP instruction set and a dedicated floating point unit (FPU). The EFM32 uses the eLL (extreme low leakage) process for ultimate low-power operation in active and sleep modes.

Linear Technology has launched the LTC3639, a 150V input-capable synchronous buck converter that delivers up to 100mA of continuous output current. It operates from an input voltage range of 4.5V to 150V, eliminating the need for an external transient suspension device. The device uses internal synchronous rectification and a programmable peak current-mode design to optimise efficiency over a broad range of output currents.

Powerstax has announced a new series of DC-DC converter power modules specifically aimed at fuel cell power generation. The modules in the FC series accept 50V to 120V input direct from many popular fuel cells and deliver a stabilised output of up to 500W. Power efficiency levels are up to 91%. They are offered in an industry standard full brick (11.68cm x 6.10cm x 1.27cm) format, with power densities of up to 5.53W/cm3.

Silicon Labs has introduced the first digital CMOS-based drop-in replacement solution for optocoupler-isolated gate drivers (opto-drivers). Supporting up to 5 kV isolation ratings and up to 10 kV surge protection, the new Si826x isolated gate drivers are suitable for a wide range of opto-drivers used in high-power motor control, industrial drives, solar power and EV/HEV inverters, and switched mode and uninterruptible power supplies.

Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe (FSEU) has released two new power management IC products developed to use energy harvesting, the MB39C811 DC/DC buck converter and the MB39C831 DC/DC boost converter. The MB39C811 features a quiescent current of just 1.5µA while the MB39C811 is said to represent the world"s first simultaneous use of energy generation from both light and vibration using only one power management IC device.
