Diodes Incorporated has introduced a single-chip IC for driving single-coil reversible DC fans and motors. A highly integrated device, in a choice of SO8 and thermally enhanced SO8 exposed pad packages, the ZXBM5210 reduces component counts and circuit footprints in medium voltage, low power applications in consumer, domestic appliance, industrial and office equipment.

The new D1U86G series of 86 mm wide, 460 Watt front end power supplies from Murata Power Solutions has been designed to achieve a high minimum conversion efficiency of 92 percent at 50 percent full load. With 1U form factor, these units measure only 86.0 x 196.9 x 39.9 mm and are intended for length-limited applications and mid-plane design architectures.

Vishay Intertechnology has expanded its microBUCK family of integrated synchronous buck regulators with a new 5 A device offering high programmable switching frequencies to 4 MHz. The Vishay Siliconix SiP12108 features integrated high- and low-side power MOSFETs in the space-saving 3 mm by 3 mm QFN-16 package, providing designers with a complete high-current solution in only 180 mm².

Murata Power Solutions’ MEF1 series of 1 Watt regulated DC-DC converters has been designed for use in industrial, automation and instrumentation applications, and these tightly regulated single output converters, rated to better than 1% of nominal output voltage, have been packaged in a fully encapsulated single-in-line through-hole format occupying less than 1.17 cm squared footprint.

Linear Technology has launched the LT8584, a monolithic flyback DC/DC converter that has been designed to actively balance high voltage stacks of batteries. These battery stacks are commonly found in electric and hybrid vehicles as well as fail-safe power supplies and energy storage systems and because these batteries are stacked in series, the lowest capacity battery will tend to limit the entire battery stack’s run-time.

The new Ericsson 3E series BMR463-25A is a third-generation digital point-of-load (POL) regulator that features Dynamic Loop Compensation (DLC) and delivers a 25 percent increase in output current over the second-generation BMR463-20A. The product features a full set of PMBus commands enabling systems architects to fully monitor and dynamically control the energy delivered to strategic components, such as processors, FPGAs, ASICs and others, down to a very low and highly economical level.

Murata Power Solutions is using Powervation’s PV3012 digital controller in its a new DC/DC module. The OKLF-T/25-W12N-C is a non-isolated, DC/DC converter delivering a maximum of 25 A at an output of 1.2 V, when operating up to 70°C with a 200 LFM airflow. The adjustable outputs provide precision regulation from 0.69 V to 3.63 V over a wide input range (6.5 V to 14 V). The new modules are for powering the latest FPGAs and ASICs used in networking, telecom, and computing applications.

CUI Inc has introduced a complete range of 3D models for their full line-up of ac-dc power supplies and dc-dc converters allowing engineers to configure, view, and download 2D and 3D drawings in any of the major mechanical CAD formats; significantly simplifying and speeding the development process. The models are available for free via the CUI website and through CUI’s distribution partners Digi-Key and Future Electronics.

Analog Devices has introduced four 8-kV ESD (electrostatic discharge) switches that have been designed to guarantee latch-up prevention in high-voltage industrial applications operating up to ±22 Vds or +40 Vss.

A racing car battery designed and manufactured by Zytek Automotive and the University of South Wales has contributed to a major series victory for Honda. Engineers at the University provided specialist testing facilities, knowledge and input into the design of the bespoke hybrid battery system for automotive supplier Zytek and its customer Honda for the Super GT Championship.
