Excelsys Technologies Xgen Medical Range of power supplies has been enhanced to include 1 x MOPP (Means of Patient Protection) approval from input to earth (ground) for patient connected equipment. Furthermore the improved products now allow customers to isolation test self-configured power supplies from input to output to 6kV DC.

Murata has launched the 3000A and 3000B series of low profile power inductors for use in noise reduction circuits of high frequency and high current switching power supplies, DC-DC converters and voltage regulator modules.

Emerson Network Power has launched two ultra-compact ac-dc front-end power supplies that meet the 80 Plus Platinum standard for efficiency. Rated at 750 watts and 1100 watts continuous output, the power supplies share the same form factor, providing the scalability that system designers need for long life cycle applications where power requirements may change in the future.

XP Power is making available the ECP225 series of efficient low profile AC-DC power supplies. Delivering up to 150 W by convection cooling alone, the units can deliver a maximum of 225 W when a forced air flow of only 10 CFM is applied. Typical efficiency is 94% and a no-load power consumption of less than 0.5 Watt means that engineers will be able to ensure that their end product complies with the latest energy efficiency standards.

The TDK Corporation has introduced the TDK-Lambda RFE1600 series of front end power supplies – 1.6kW 1U high units for stand alone and distributed power architecture (DPA) applications requiring 12V, 24V, 32V and 48V bulk power in the communications, test and industrial markets. Up to 20% output voltage adjustment is possible enabling the RFE1600 to be used in a variety of customer specific applications including battery charging.

Ohmite Manufacturing has unveiled new 5W and 7W surface mount wirewound resistors for high power density applications. The new RW5 and RW7 Series SMD wirewound resistors feature a ‘finned’ body style in order to maximise surface area, and therefore cooling capacity, without taking up excessive PCB space.

iWatt Inc. has expanded its PrimAccurate pulse width modulation (PWM) controller platform to include two new power adapter chipsets that are able to offer the company’s fastest standby recovery. The iW1766 + iW628 and iW1767 + iW628 chipsets provide ultra-low, <10mW standby power at up to 12W output power and <20mW standby at up to 24W output power (respectively), while giving designers the option for what the company believes is the industry’s fastest dynamic load response.

ams has released the AS1345, a miniature step-up DC-DC regulator that maintains high efficiency in power supplies designed for small, medium-sized or large displays in mobile products. Manufacturers of multiple portable end products with different display sizes will be able to re-use their display power circuit design, saving development time and reducing board assembly and tooling costs.

Maxim Integrated Products is currently sampling the MAX77301 Li+ battery charger. It integrates the intelligence to enumerate with the host device, automatically identify the adapter type, and then determine the fastest rate to charge a battery. With advanced temperature monitoring, the MAX77301 modulates the charge current and battery regulation voltage automatically to maximize safety in any temperature environment.

Linear Technology has unveiled a new high voltage inverting DC/DC controller that uses just a single inductor to produce a negative voltage from a positive input voltage. Most low to medium power inverters use a coupled inductor topology, or transformer which increases the circuit size and complexity. The new LTC3863 simplifies the design further with all of its interface signals being positive ground referenced. None of the device’s pins are connected to a negative voltage allowing the output voltage to be limited only by the selection of external components.
